Are fireworks an essential part of your Fourth of July celebrations? If so, you’ll be happy to know that Lake Arrowhead will still host its annual fireworks display. And if you’ve spent years celebrating Independence Day at the lake, you can maintain the tradition in 2020.

However, there will be some inevitable changes to Lake Arrowhead’s celebrations amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The Arrowhead Lake Associate (ALA) has implemented new safety measures in accordance with California and federal regulations to promote social distancing so that all attendees can enjoy the weekend with confidence.

To celebrate safely this Fourth of July weekend, follow this guide on what to expect and how to prepare for the holiday.

What to Expect This Year

This year, Lake Arrowhead will kick off Fourth of July weekend with a few extra precautions.

With some nearby cities and businesses canceling their annual fireworks displays, and others reducing the size of the viewing area, the ALA expects more interest in this year’s Lake Arrowhead Fireworks Spectacular.

To plan for a larger number of attendees, the ALA has made some adjustments to the usual festivities. However, there are still ways to view the fireworks and enjoy the weekend.

Fireworks Spectacular

The annual fireworks spectacular will go on at 9 p.m. on the Fourth of July. However, to meet California and San Bernardino County health and safety guidelines, the ALA has implemented the following changes:

  • New location This year, the fireworks will take place at the east end of Arrowhead Lake, between the Outlet Tower and Emerald Bay.
  • Viewing limitations Unlike past shows, this year’s fireworks will not be readily visible from the Tavern Bay Beach Club or Lake Arrowhead Village. Unfortunately, these on-shore viewing points could easily become overcrowded, so the ALA has chosen to discourage people from congregating in these areas.
  • Enjoy on your boat – The best fireworks viewing will be from boats or from properties on the east end of the lake. This way, your family can more easily maintain social distance from other attendees.

How to Prepare for the Celebrations

To best enjoy your holiday, plan in advance for crowds, and for your personal safety. While socializing with other boaters is part of Lake Arrowhead culture, this year, it’s best to stick with your family and friends and avoid close contact with other community members.

Parking

Parking is always limited during Independence Day weekend, and some parking locations may limit the number of available spaces to comply with state social distancing guidelines.

Consider the following strategies to simplify parking:

  • Bring your family in one vehicle
  • Arrive early to ensure a good spot

Observe Signs for Private Property

Whether you’re looking for parking or trying to find a good onshore viewing spot for the fireworks, it can be tempting to take advantage of any open area you see. However, be aware of private property signs around the lake and respect your neighbors’ space.

Protect Your Personal Safety

If you’re viewing the fireworks from your boat or property, you should be able to maintain social distancing from attendees outside your immediate family or friends.

However, as you enter the parking lot and marina, protect your personal safety and help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

  • Wear a mask – On June 18, Governor Newsom mandated the use of masks in public.
  • Wash your hands frequently – Make sure your car and boat are stocked with hand sanitizer. Encourage all members of your party to use it frequently.
  • Maintain social distance – Stay six feet away from individuals outside your party when in public spaces.
  • Stay home if you’re experiencing symptoms – If you experience a cough, fever, or difficulty breathing, skip this year’s celebration and consult your physician.

Wishing You a Happy Fourth of July

While there are some modifications to this year’s Lake Arrowhead Independence Day celebration, at Kiwi Docks, we’re excited that the display will still go on. Whether you enjoy the festivities from your property or dock, we’re wishing you and your family a happy, safe Fourth of July and holiday weekend.
